Short bios
Marilena Anastasaki, PhD (candidate) is a public health and epidemiology researcher at the Clinic of Social and Family Medicine (CSFM), School of Medicine, University of Crete, with a background on mathematics (BSc) and biostatistics (MSc). She is also a Stipendium researcher at the Faculty of Medicine, Linkoping University, Sweden and is collaborating with CSFM’s Health Promotion Unit affiliated to the University of Crete Research Center for Humanities, Social and Education Sciences. Marilena has co-authored 17 peer-reviewed publications. She lecturing in the Master of Public Health and Healthcare Management, University of Crete and Frederick University, Cyprus. Marilena is advanced in SPSS and STATA. Recent projects: RECOVER-Rapid European COVID-19 Emergency Response (EU Horizon 2020); Prevalence of SARS-CoV-2 in Crete, Greece: a population-based sero-epidemiological study (Region of Crete); Enhancing skills for addressing vaccine hesitancy among medically underserved and economically deprived people in Crete, Greece (Pfizer Competitive Grant)
Konstantinos Kafetsios Ph.D. (Lancaster University) is a Professor in Social Psychology at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and visiting professor at the Psychology Department, University of Crete and at Palacký University in Olomouc. His research looks into emotion in social and personal relationships, in hierarchical relationships at work, and in social interaction across cultures. For this research he has received funding from National (GSRT, HFRI, IKY) and international sources (FP7, H2020, EEA Grants, DAAD). He is first author or co-author in numerous publications in international peer-refereed journals and currently serves as an Associate Editor for the European Journal of Social Psychology while also on the editorial board of several journals of the field. He is a full member of the International Society of Research on Emotion, the European Association of Social Psychology and the International Association for Relationship Research.
Since 2004, Evangelos Karademas is a faculty member at the Department of Psychology, University of Crete (currently a Professor of Clinical Health Psychology). Between 2004 and 2014 he served as the Chair of the University of Crete Counselling Center for Students, as well as the Chair of the Department of Psychology from 2012 to 2014. Since 2020 Evangelos is the Director of the Laboratory of Applied Psychology, University of Crete. He is a member of the editorial board in six international and two Greek journals, as well as an Associated Editor in two journals. He is currently the President of the European Health Psychology Society. He has authored one book, edited six more, and published more than 130 scientific articles and chapters in international and local journals and editions. His research interests include the role of stress in health and illness, self-regulation, dyadic regulation and health, adaptation to chronic illness, and well-being.
Maria Kousis (PhD, University of Michigan, 1984) is Professor of Sociology (Development and Environment) and Director of the University of Crete Research Centre for the Humanities, the Social and Education Sciences (UCRC). She was coordinator or partner in European Commission research projects including “Grassroots Environmental Action”, TEA, PAGANINI and MEDVOICES. Publications consist of 14 edited volumes, books and special issues as well as more than 70 articles or book chapters, including the edited volume Economic and Political Contention in Comparative Perspective (co-edited with C. Tilly, 2005) and the special issue “Alternative Action Organizations During Hard Economic Times: A Comparative European Perspective”, American Behavioral Scientist (coeditor with S. Kalogeraki and C. Cristancho, 2018). Her research centers on Social Change, Contentious Politics, Environmental Politics, Bioethics, Social Impacts of Crises and Southern Europe - recently in the context of the GGCRISI (Greek-German Ministries Cooperation), LIVEWHAT (FP7), TransSOL (H2020) and EURYKA (H2020) projects.
Christos Lionis, MD, PhD, FRCGP(Hon), FWONCA, FESC is a Professor of General Practice and Primary Health Care at the School of Medicine, University of Crete and Head of the Clinic of Social and Family Medicine (CSFM) at the School of Medicine, University of Crete. Christos is also appointed as a Visiting Professor of General Practice at the School of Medicine and Health, University of Linkoping, Sweden. Christos is the Director of the Master in Public Health, Health Care Services and Primary Health Care. He is involved in the development of Primary Health Care and General Practice in Greece, while his academic unit has a strong involvement in European and international funded research projects. Christos is involved in an editorial and advisory capacity with a number of international journals, while he is also a member of the Executive Boards of various professional organizations. He has published 398 papers in international journals (cited in PubMed). Christos was awarded an Honorary Fellowship from the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) London, 2009. He was also awarded from the World Association of General Practitioners/Family Physicians (WONCA) in 2016 and from the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) in 2017. Christos was appointed in 2019 as a Member of the European Commission Expert Panel on Effective Ways of Investing in Health (https://ec.europa.eu/health/expert_panel/).
Elena Petelos is a Public Health Specialist, a Research Fellow at the CAPHRI Care and Public Health Research Institute of the Maastricht University, and a Lecturer of EBM and EIP at the University of Crete. She is also an evaluator for multiple funding instruments of the European Commission. She serves as the Vice-President for Health Technology Assessment in European Public Health Association (EUPHA), where she is also a Member of the Core Committee for Infectious Disease Control. She is also the Acting Chair of EUPHA’s Working Group on SDG5: Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment. She is the elected Co-Chair for Real-World Evidence and Artificial Intelligence at HTAi, serves in the Advisory Board of the European Forum for Primary Care (EFPC), and she is a member on the Policy Officers Group of the European Medicines Agency. She is the elected Chair of the Sub-group of EU, OECD, WHO-European Health Information Initiative (EHII) on Mapping indicators across the European region and the Vice-Chair on Evidence-Informed Policy of EHII. She represents Maastricht University in the recently established International Network for Social Intervention.
Stavroula Tsinorema is Professor of Philosophy and Bioethics, Director of the Joint Postgraduate Programme in Bioethics and Director of the Centre for Bioethics of the University of Crete. Her main publications are in moral and social philosophy, bioethics, ethics of science, epistemology, philosophy of language. She has been a member of the European Commission’s “Expert Group to advise on specific ethical issues raised by driverless mobility”, which issued the «Independent Expert Report on the Ethics of Connected and Automated Vehicles, 2020» (https://europa.eu/!VV67my). She is a member of the Greek National Commission for Bioethics and Technoethics. She heads the Research Ethics Committee (REC) of the University of Crete and that of the Hellenic Pasteur Institute. She is vice chair of REC of the National Centre for Social Research; member of the Scientific Committee of Greek Patients Association; member of the Committee on Bioethics and the Ethics of the Sciences, and the Committee on Human Rights, of Fédération Internationale des Sociétés de Philosophie; member of the Scientific and Technical Advisory Board (STAB) of the European Research Infrastructure Consortium ‘LifeWatch ERIC’.
