Developing Critical Language Awareness on pupils in a socio-cultural environment of crisis: a case study

The project aims at exploring the ways in which critical language awareness of pupils may be researched via utilization of socio-cultural theories in contemporary Greek educational context. Through a case study we attempted to portray how the crisis – as a contemporary socio-cultural phenomenon – may be a chance to implement educational activities aiming at raising the awareness of the students on the historical and socio-cultural dimensions of language. Thus, for students to understand in greater depth the contemporary meanings of terms such as crisis, poverty, solidarity, unemployment, social justice, democracy and the mechanisms which form these meanings.
